Award winning vocalist Kelley Johnson and renown guitarist John Stowell are teaming up once again to share “lessons from the road” … ideas for Jazz vocalists and guitarists to explore by working together… in an educational clinic this coming Sunday 12 July from 1-3pm at the Mercer Island Community Center.
Kelley and John will explore a variety of related topics ranging from keeping a sense of pulse|swing when performing as a Duo to intros|outros that ensure both are together at same place and key. Vocalists will learn about the colors, subtleties, possibilities and challenges of working with a guitarist; guitarists will learn a great deal about the nuances of comping for a vocalist. Together, vocalists and guitarists will both walk away from this clinic with a far better understanding of the skills…and art…that distinguish this special genre and maybe even the desire to find a willing musical partner in the other.
Fees are only $25 for SJGS members and $30 for non-members [special student and senior rates apply]. Two hours with two great musicians.
